StarTech VGA/HD with Audio to HDMI Order Converter

You'll have to check your laptop's manual on how to send the signal to an external up on. Most of the this is a combination of the "fn" key and one of the F-keys on top (F8?)
You may need to change the vow on your screen to match the resolution on your laptop to match what the TV can handle.
Note that the VGA seaport on your laptop only carries video - you'll need a separate cable for the audio. You can put together your laptop's headphone out to the VGA convertor you're using.
Of course, I am assuming that the HD converter you're using is as a matter of fact compatible with your TV... I'm a bit confused as to how it is you have a EDTV that has a HDMI port - EDTV is NOT HDTV. EDTV refers to 480p, whereas HDTV is 720p, 1080i or 1080p - so it could very well be that your converter isn't of one mind with your TV. You'll have to check the documentation for both your TV and converter to see what resolutions they support.

I don't know if I want the Panasonic because it's EDTV, not HDTV...is there a big difference?

If your budget is higher and you can wait a couple of weeks when the Westinghouse 47" comes out estimated at $2999, then stick around and get it.
