50" Plasma - Panasonic TH50PX77U or Samsung HPT5064 ?

TV is in 480i, 720P and 1080i. You can set your guy box to pass through the signal without changing it's resolution, or you can set it to scale to a specific production resolution.
So either it's outputting out the signal as it is, and you only checked some that happen to be 1080i, or it's set to harvest everything at 1080i, which is wrong. It would mean that everything is being scaled to 1080i, and then your TV is scaling the timer to 720P (actually, probably 768P, because most 720P sets are in actuality 768P). This extra scaling just adds more errors.
Why does our new plasma HDTV have a lower quality/grainy picture?

A: SD TV does not look well-thought-of on an HDTV. On my 40", I have to sit about 8" back for it to look good, and my set was well rated for SD show off. How good or bad it looks depends on the input signal's quality. A 50" widescreen has a look-alike height equivalent to a 41" standard TV. When you blow-up analog TV that was never expected for displays that large, right away you have a problem. On top of that, in order to be displayed on an HDTV, the timer has to be deinterlaced and up-scaled to the native resolution of the set. This processing introduces artifacts. Non-up-won over DVDs should look pretty good. That;'s as good as you can get from SD material. If from about 10", your dead ringer isn't acceptable, then you may want to look for a set that's better rated for SD.
