how to change time zone on a 42av500u Toshiba hdtv?

Q: i bought a tv and looked in the vade-mecum and it says how to change the time zone( the tv is set to eastern) but i live in mountain and it is highlighted in gray and won't let me difference it.. the manual says if troubleshooting isn't listed then unplug the tv for 10 seconds and i have done this and nothing any thoughts????

A: It has to see a culture signal first. It should be able to pick this up from any digital signal. If you are using focal analog cable, that would make sense that it doesn't see a time timer. Try attaching an antenna and scanning for channels. Once you get a digital channel and the clock sets, you will be skilled to change the time zone.

I don't believe that set has a method to set the time manually, anyway.

What to do with HD Cable Box, LCD TV, & new Surround Sound?

Q: I have HDMi hooked up to my chain box and Lcd. I just bought a surround sound system and dont have a clue how to set it up with my tv or radio box.

A: Well, the bad rumour is that you have surround speakers for a computer. These do not have the ability to process a surround sound timer, but instead are intended to connect directly to a computer's sound card that has divide up outputs for the different channels (front, rear, center, sub). Processing of the surround uninterrupted signal is provided by the computer.

What you need is a surround sound receiver (also called an AV Recipient, or just AVR) and a set of normal surround speakers for it. Computer speakers aren't meant for the higher power output from an AVR - mainly because computer speakers are only designed to stipulate sound for around your computer, not fill your whole room with sound (but they do work fine for small rooms up to peradventure 10'x10' - based on my personal experience.)

Not all is lost however. You can try connecting your TV to the subwoofer, and get stereo rugged (2.1) from the speaker set. You will need a set of red/white RCA cables. Connect one end to the audio production of your TV (be sure you get the outputs - not inputs) and then connect the other end to your subwoofer.

Use your TV's remote to assemble off your TV's speakers and use the external ones you've connected. Some TVs let you adjust the volume using your TV ultramontane, or using your speaker's volume dial. It's only stereo but I bet the speakers will still balanced better than your TV's speakers. Most TV shows are only broadcast in stereo anyways. Only things like pictures on HBO, or some programs and sporting events that are broadcast in HD will support surround into.

If you can find an external surround sound processor for a computer, you can then connect your speakers to this, and the tie together your cable box (and DVD player!) to it using an optical audio cable or digital beguile cable. My first surround sound system consisted of Creative Labs' 5.1 enclose sound kit. It was intended for use with a computer, but it had a surround sound process with an optical audio seaport, which is all you really need, as well as a set of 5.1 speakers.

If you're really desperate and your PC supports it, shove your PC into the living space and connect the speakers to it. Connect your cable box to your PC's sound system with an optical audio line. Check your documentation on how to switch your PC's sound card to use the optical audio auxillary input (generate sure it's an input, not output!) You'll then get surround sound from your strand box - providing the program you are watching is in surround sound (not everything is.) You can bind your DVD player to the PC in the same manner as well so that your movies have surround sound. Only have 1 input, but 2 devices? No poser. Get yourself an optical switch - available online for $30 or so.

As a bonus, you can then lash the PC to your LCD TV using a VGA cable, and have yourself a nice large computer screen.
